Sustainability

Did you know!?

Around 400 Billion cups of coffee are consumed a year.

Meaning over 500,000 tonnes of coffee waste end up in landfill each year in the UK alone.

Waste Coffee Grounds into landfill is a catalyst for producing Methane gas which is 20 times more damaging to the environment than CO2!

It’s also a potential source of hazardous pathogens and organic leachates that can contaminate surface and ground water courses, leading to other biological and environmental hazards.

We know it’s time to act…

Our team are extremely proud to recycle all of our consumed packaging, however we know our product (coffee) has a detrimental effect.

By supplying Eco Roast coffee we help deliver a positive impact on our environment. Combining their closed loop reuse approach and our passion for great coffee for a more sustainable future.

Spent coffee grounds are an abundant, energy rich resource that should not end up in our landfills. Eco Roast technology enables them to harness this valuable energy and use it to roast fresh batches of beautiful coffees for everyone to enjoy.

Our waste coffee re-cycling scheme

This ZERO WASTE solution enables you to enjoy the great taste of freshly roasted coffee, comfortable in the knowledge that waste has not been produced, but actually reduced.

An environmentally friendly solution to help reduce waste and carbon emissions for a more sustainable future.

So how does it work?

1. The process starts with the consumer, enjoying a delicious cup of coffee in their coffee outlet (or workplace). The coffee outlet is collecting the used coffee grounds in special (re-purposed) containers issued to them by ourselves at Roundstone Vending. These containers are then collected at the same time as the outlets next delivery of fresh coffee beans.

2. The next stage of the process, once the grounds have been collected is to sieve out any foreign objects and dry the coffee grounds. From there the dried coffee grounds are fed into a large mechanical press that forces the coffee under huge pressure through a die and this forms the Bio-Fuel our Eco Roasters require.

3. The third stage of the process is roasting. Custom made Eco Roasters (roasting machines) are used to turn the Coffee Bio-Fuel into the heat energy needed to roast delicious fresh coffee beans. The Eco Roaster is so energy efficient that it only uses approx 40g of Bio-Fuel to roast 1000g of fresh coffee! It even stores excess heat in large thermal storage tanks for heating the roastery!

4. The final stage of the process is the beans that have just been roasted, these are then quickly cooled, de-stoned and packed to lock in the freshness. Boxed ready for delivery to the customers. For those customers adopting the Coffe-Eco System, these beans will be delivered at the same time as their coffee waste is collected. Ensuring a carbon neutral journey is achieved.
