Castle Coachworks Case Study

General Information

Client: Castle Coachworks

Location: Headquartered in Northampton, United Kingdom

Industry: Automotive (Motor Sector)

Established: 1994

Castle Coachworks is a leading name in the automotive repair and bodywork industry. Built on the philosophy that "knowledge is power," the company continues to stay at the forefront of the sector by investing heavily in expertise, staff training, and state-of-the-art technology. Their mission is to maintain a high-calibre environment through ongoing development programs for auto bodywork technicians, painters, and mechanics, alongside a robust apprenticeship scheme aimed at nurturing the next generation of talent.

A landmark moment in the company’s journey came in late 2019, when Directors Brian Lennon (Business Development), Rita Robins (Finance), Darren Browne (Operations), and John Strowbridge (Investment Partner) spearheaded a major expansion. They added a new 10,000ft² premises adjacent to their existing 24,000ft² workshop, creating a dedicated space for offices, a boardroom, and customer-friendly drop-off and collection points, a vital innovation during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Business Growth and Development

Since its inception, Castle Coachworks has seen impressive growth, now employing 40 members of staff across two premises. This expansion reflects the company’s relentless focus on customer service, operational efficiency, and investment in both people and infrastructure.

When it came to their coffee, vending, and water services, Castle Coachworks initially sourced products through direct purchase. However, as costs continued to rise, they sought a more cost-effective and service-focused solution — leading them to partner with Roundstone Solutions for their instant coffee and water needs.

What Sets Castle Coachworks Apart: Unlike many competitors, Castle Coachworks prioritises the customer’s best interests, particularly when insurers may offer conflicting advice following an accident. Their commitment to customer advocacy sets them apart as a truly client-first organisation.

Workforce and Human Capital

Castle Coachworks fosters a positive workplace culture through structured training programs, a focus on career development, and investment in cutting-edge facilities. Their leadership understands that engaged, well-trained employees are central to delivering outstanding service.

Sustainability and Environmental Initiatives

Key Initiatives:

  • Transitioned from in-cup solutions to an instant coffee system, encouraging the use of reusable cups to reduce waste.

  • Actively promotes waste reduction practices across its operations.

While not formally partnered with environmental stewardship programs, Castle Coachworks demonstrates a clear internal commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

Innovative Practices and Solutions

Castle Coachworks continually invests in solutions that enhance both customer experience and operational efficiency. The new premises not only streamlined operations but also enabled a safer and more convenient customer journey during challenging times such as the pandemic. Their move to more eco-friendly coffee solutions further reflects a broader commitment to sustainability without compromising quality.

Circular Economy and Waste Management

While Castle Coachworks does not formally integrate full circular economy programs, it has taken proactive steps in minimising single-use waste through initiatives like the transition to instant coffee systems that support reusable cups. These changes underline their evolving approach toward more sustainable business practices.
